Module III: Equestrian Experience
Module overview: "horse, ox, sheep, pig, dog, and chicken" are called the "six main types of livestock". Horse is the ranked the first of the "six main types of livestock", playing an irreplaceable role in the social process. They are used for carrying goods and fighting the enemy for their strength and speed. Thy not only serve as a main driving force of agricultural production, transportation and military activities, but also enrich the people's entertainment, life and artistic creation, have left precious cultural heritage.
Today, we will learn and inherit the traditional Chinese horse culture from five aspects: horses and life, horses and transportation, horses and warfare, horses and entertainment, and horses and art. Under the guidance of the instructor, the participants will be able to appropriately approach horses, touch them, and make friends with the horse.
Module objectives:
1. Get close to animals, walk into the nature and make friends with horses;
2. Explore the role of horses in China's long history;
3. Carry forward and inherit the traditional Chinese horse culture;
4. Master the right way to approach and touch horses.
5. Experience the fun of horse riding and cultivate courage and self-confidence.
Module duration: 90-120 minutes
Recommended level: all grades of students
Venues: Bailihuang Cloudy Racecourse
Maximum number of participants: 300 participants (The venue can accommodate up to 6 classes for the equestrian experience module at the same time; 50 participants per class in a small class system)
Teachers: (1 instructor + 1 equestrian + 1 supervisor)
Teaching aids: (mobile sound system, various harnesses, display boards, various representative horses with mild temperament)
Module risks: Horses are large animals posing a certain degree of uncertainties.
Safety: 1. The equestrian will select the horses for the teaching activities in advance to ensure control over the horses; 2. Before the participants enter the stable, the module teacher must inform the precautions, and the instructor should inform the participants of precautions and the instructor should strengthen supervision; 3. The teachers, tour guides and class supervisors should pay close attention to the dynamics of participants and what happens to the participants leaving the team.

2.Teaching

1. Get close to animals, walk into the nature and make friends with horses; understand the basic knowledge, living habits and emotional expression of horses; know new species and the differences between horses, donkeys and mules; 2. Learn and inherit the traditional Chinese horse culture from five aspects: horses and life, horses and transportation, horses and warfare, horses and entertainment, and horses and art; 3. Consolidate the knowledge of horses by telling related allegorical sayings, idioms and interesting stories; 4. Identify and be familiar with bridles, saddles and other harnesses involved in horse training and their uses; 5. Learn to approach and touch the horse correctly. 6. Select representatives to experience the fun of horse riding and understand interesting facts about the Western equestrian culture. |

3.Evaluation
|
A study handbook is handed out before study of the module. The handbook describes the learning tasks, requires filling of the learning contains a module evaluation form based on the module design selected by the school. The module evaluation form will be collected by class before the completion ceremony. |
